Prof.Dr. İsmail Hakkı Ayhan

Ankara University Medical Faculty, Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology

Dr. İ Hakkı Ayhan graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1967. During 1967-1970 he received specialization training in Ankara University Faculty of Medicine Department of Pharmacology. In 1971 he went to Denmark and studied as Post- Doctoral Research Fellow” in Set. Hans Mental Hospital Psychopharmacology Research Unit. He returned to Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1974 and continued his studies here.

In 1975 he was associate professor and in 1980 he was professor. Dr. İ. Hakkı Ayhan was Dean of faculty of Pharmacy of Ankara University during 1987-1990. Currently he is Chairman of Ankara University faculty of Medicine Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology, Chairman of Ankara University Faculty of Medicine Department of Medical Education and Informatics, Ankara University Presidency Education Coordinator.

During 1989-2001 he was member of Medical Licensing Board in Ministry of Health and for a long time he was president of this board. During 1994-2001 he was member of Central Ethical Board and during 1996-2001 he was president of this board. Dr. İ. Hakkı Ayhan made great efforts in application of Regulations on Medicine research and GCP Regulations in our country. Dr. Ayhan is a long-time President of Ankara University Faculty of Medicine Ethical Board and he has made speeches in many symposiums and courses on generalization of Medicine research and GCP Boards. He is member of executive board and course lecturer of Vienna School of Clinical Research located in Austria.

Dr. Ayhan’s focus of pharmacologic research is Psychopharmacology and majority of his publications are in this subject. As a result of this, he became an invited member of “European College of Neuro - Psychopharmacology (ECNP)” and opened the way for our nation’s scientists to join this institution. Dr. Ayhan served as member of executive board of ECNP during 1998-2001, and he provided the “Regional Meeting, Annual Congress and Educational Workshop” activities of this institution to be held in Turkey. Dr. Ayhan is currently working on Relations between Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders and Central Neurotransmitter Systems and also Project director of “Student-centered problem-based Central Integrated Education System” application Project initiated in 2002 in Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, and he continues his activities in generalization of clinical research and GCP principles.
